Solenoid selection considerations
Solenoids for process applications are usually offered either servo-assisted or direct-acting, with both having their advantages and uses.
summarised a direct-acting valve will offer a trouble-free service where there is no pressure differential across the valve, i.e. having a tank of liquid which uses gravity to assist with the flow through the valves.
A servo-assisted valve needs a differential or difference between the inlet and outlet of the solenoid valve in order for it to work correctly and usually, they require this differential to be as much as 0.5 bar so in a closed pumped system this type of valve would be fine.
