PVC-U & ABS Ball Valves

The two most predominant materials for valves frequently asked for are Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC-U) and Acrylonitrile - Butadiene – Styrene (ABS).Below is a brief and useful description on both materials:

PVC-U

PVC-U is the most widely used of all plastics for pipe installations, offering rigidity, versatility and being suitable for both below or above the ground.

PVC-U has an excellent chemical resistance, allows the safe transportation of many acids, alkalis and chemical concentrates without fear of corrosion and environmental pollution.

It is odourless and tasteless, therefore suitable for conveying potable water, food or dairy products at temperatures from 0ºC to 60ºC. PVC-U valves are lightweight and easy to install using cold solvent welded joints which require no special tools.

ABS

ABS is a strong and rigid pressure piping system. Offering exceptional toughness renowned for its high impact strength and durability. Temperatures range from -40ºC to 80ºC at pressures up to 15 bar.

ABS is especially useful at sub-zero temperatures. ABS is a non-toxic plastic so it’s good for high purity applications, food stuff, soft drinks and can handle abrasive slurries.

ABS pipe systems are lightweight, rigid, and easy to install. Joints are made using solvent cement and require no special tools.
